From local veterinarian Dr. Mary Cahill:
I do want you to know how much I really appreciate your help. The Peak Veterinary Specialists are so awesome and we are so fortunate to have you all in our corner. Thank you! Mary
Dear Dr. Lauren Prause, Vicki, Carrie and the rest of the staff,
We just wanted to say thanks for everything you did to determine that Willow was in heat and then to save her life from the liver abscess.
You were all so caring and Dr. Prause is fantastic at diagnosing and at explaining everything thoroughly.
The fact that Dr. Prause suggested an ultrasound before scoping Willow when we came up in September with a possible kidney or bladder problem, saved Willow a lot more trauma. The ultrasound was performed expertly by Dr. Jennifer Lowry and found the unexpected ovary and uterus. Dr. Prause then confirmed she was in heat. We had all assumed she had been spayed when she was 5 months old in 2002 (since we had a bill and she had stitches).
Then when we brought Willow back in mid October suspecting an infected uterus, Dr. Sandy VanCamp came in from vacation to do another ultrasound. This showed a liver problem, which led to surgery that day to remove 1/5 of her liver and complete the spaying that was not done properly when she was 5 months old.
You all took such great care of Willow after surgery during her two nights with you. She is doing great and actually got her Rally Advanced/Excellent (RAE) title on 1/17/10 at the Long's Peak Obedience Trial in Greeley. So, things are looking good and we have a good outcome after a very stressful fall of 2009.
Thanks again for everything you have done for us. I have recommended your clinic to several people who need special vet assistance.

Dear Dr. Miller and Staff,
How can I express my gratitude for the gift of additional years with my beloved Ari? I am certain that it was your expert, creative, and compassionate treatment that not only prolonged her life but also improved its quality. I especially appreciate that, when faced with Ari's multiple conditions (diabetes, Cushing's, Addison's, hypothyroidism, cataracts, pancreatitis, kidney dysfunction), you all went above and beyond by taking considerable time to search the professional literature for new developments, to discuss treatment alternatives, to consider and consult about the ways in which her conditions and their treatments interacted, to coordinate treatment efforts with other veterinary professionals, to answer my questions (however neurotic), and to treat Ari with respect for her individual personality and needs. During periods in which Ari required weekly or even daily medical attention, your patience, your dedication, your kindness, and your availability remained unwavering. At such times, I took comfort in knowing that leaving her in your care was providing her with the best treatment possible. Indeed, despite the discomfort or pain that occasioned her visits to your office, Ari made it clear that she loved and trusted her primary doctor, Ellen Miller, her primary nurses, Vicki Kahler and Shawna Lee, and her entire treatment team.
Sincerely,
Elyse Morgan, Ph.D.
Dear Dr. Miller and the wonderful staff at Peak Veterinary Specialists,
We are writing to tell you how much we appreciated the help that you provided to our beloved apricot standard poodles Lady and Dakota during the sunset years of their lives. The caring and compassion that you showed to those two dogs could not be measured. We never felt more at ease than when they were in your hands, and your always being just a phone call away whenever we had questions was truly a godsend. You (and your clinic) are simply the best. We will always remember our good times with Lady and Dakota; likewise we will remember how you helped make those good times possible. Thank you so much.

Testimonials from Radioactive Iodine Treatment (I-131) clients
Dear Peak Veterinary Specialists,
Thank you so much for the wonderful care your staff gave to the cat of my life, Kenosha. He is his old self again and doing great. Before the treatment, he was frail and his eyes were always dilated. Now his beautiful denim-blue eyes are back! He has gained back all his weight (if not more) since he got home. I feel very lucky to have him for even more than the 14 1/2 years he's been in my life, because of your treatment.
Thanks for all you do,
Melanie Stafford
Our cat, Sandy, was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She was prescribed oral methimazole for her lifetime to control this condition. We tried the ear gel version for greater ease. Sandy developed a reaction to the ear gel with rashes above her eyes. We put her back on the pill form and eventually her skin reaction cleared up. But we had another concern. We were to go away for ten days and worried that Sandy would not let the pet sitter medicate her. Our veterinarian mentioned radioactive iodine treatment as an alternative. Everything moved very fast at Peak. Sandy was examined and had the procedure the next day. Recuperation was quick and the isolation period was easy to deal with. Sandy is cured. She needs no daily meds and is very healthy and happy. We believe that having a normal thyroid helps keep Sandy’s liver, kidneys, and blood pressure at a normal level.

I-131 treatment is the way to treat hyperthyroidism. Methimazole did nothing accept stress both of us out (my cat and I) twice a day during the applications. I feel like I have a new cat. Bucky has gained weight and I don’t feel his backbone any longer. His normal coat came right back. I have to brush him again because he’s shedding. He wasn’t doing that because his coat was so lackluster when he had hyperthyroidism. All the girls at PVS are superior. I called them the “A” team!
Thank you PVS,

Thank you guys. You took such good care of Lupie. He seems so much better since the radioactive iodine treatment. He acts more like his old self. We are so glad we found you. Thanks for your wonderful care and your kindness.

As a veterinarian, I have seen many hyperthyroid cats over the years and was well aware of the treatment options when I diagnosed my own cat "Smokey" with hyperthyroidism. Permanent resolution of the condition by treating with radioactive iodine (I-131) appealed to me so much more than the idea of having to medicate my cat daily for the rest of his life. Seriously, how many of us really enjoy having to give our cats medicine! And I know they don't enjoy it.
Initially I was a little apprehensive about Smokey having to stay away from home for several days, but he sailed through the treatment under the skilled and compassionate care of the veterinarians and staff at Peak Veterinary Specialists, and is now back to his normal self. We couldn't be happier with the treatment outcome.

Dear everyone at Radiant Feline,
When I found out there was a Radiant Feline center across from my vet's office and that my vet had a close relationship with both Dr. Prause and Dr. Miller, I was delighted. My vet highly recommended them both and assured me that the treatment that my cats would receive there would be amazing. She did not exaggerate in the least. Taz did not seem to be stressed by the experience in the least and actually seemed to enjoy the Radiant Spa (that is what I ended up calling it). As for my experience, not only did I get daily updates on how she was doing, when she got done with the I-131 treatment, she was back to her old self and was actually in a good mood, which sometimes does not happen when she comes back from the vet.
The doctors always took time to answer my questions and followed up on how Taz was doing. When it was time for Bugs to go in a month later, she did great too and she hates new people and places and hides when she is scared. She did not seem scared in the least and was constantly talking to the technicians.
I hope I will not have to, but I would send any of my cats to the Radiant Spa. It was a great experience for both me and my cats.
- Cindy Bingham, owner of Taz and Bugs, both treated with I-131 in spring 2007
